About VFA

The activity of Football Academy was started in June 1999 with the help of Celtic Glasgow and FC Liverpool (starting in 2002).
The founder of the VFA (Venglos Football Academy) is Doc. PhDr. Jozef Venglos, the university lecturer, the former Czechoslovak national team coach, and the former coach of prominent European clubs, such as Sporting Lisboa, Aston Villa, Fenerbache Istanbul, Celtic Glasgow, and Jef United. As the Czechoslovak national team coach, he was a winner of the European Championship in 1976 and he reached the third place at European Champions in 1980. With the team of Czechoslovakia, he was twice qualified to World cup Championship in Spain in 1982, and in Italy in 1990. The result was – the quarter-finals. Several times, he was also the coach of World selected team under the patronage of FIFA.

At present, Jozef Venglos is the chairman of UEFA's Committee for Technical Development, FIFA Technical Advisor, and the president of the Union of European Football Coaches.

The main aim of the VFA is to build youth football academy in the beautiful surroundings that will prepare Slovak young talented football players with their future doing well in home and foreign football. With the help of our current work and care of football youth, we want to improve and insure a complex training process for young footballers with modern trends of education of talented players. They are brought up by quality, experienced, and professionally educated coaches and teachers.

We endeavour to create gradually a structure of the new type of football academy, that hasn't been established in Slovakia yet. We would like to gain financial support from different sources and subjects: home and foreign grants, Ministry of Education, Slovak Football Association, anti – drug foundation, etc. The establishing of the football academy means long dated program with important sport and pedagogical, social, and economical aspects. All successful foreign practical, and theoretical experiences have been used in our work.

Provided services:

- the education of talented youth football players from Slovakia and other countries
- the creating of some possibilities for activities of parents, grants, and the members of their families who could play tennis, mini football, or who could use some regeneration cures during the training
- the organization of youth tournaments with home and international participation
- the organization of seminars and camps for youth teams of the Slovak Football Association (and also other countries), with modern audio – visual devices
- the organization of single sport events for grants and companies
- the creating of optimistic, friendly and family atmosphere together with grants, parents, and schools (e.g. Celtic Glasgow, Manchester United, Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munchen, FC Liverpool)
- the exchange of the most talented players and coaches with similar academies in Europe and Japan
- the possibility of organisation of camps for home and foreign youth teams
- the using of medical and regeneration centers

The Academy has its base in surrounding:

Bratislava Petrzalka – PVFA, where train pupils under 15 and juniors from Bratislava and surrounding areas, who play in national competitions.

The selection of young footballers and their supplementation is carried out twice a year, but new talents being searched across Slovakia are supplemented in the course.

Since summer 2002, the members of teams in all age cathegories have been stabilized. The most quality football players have the trainings also in the mornings, four times a week. They are freed from the lessons at their schools. In the afternoon, they train with their teams, and once a week they have a competition match. All football players once a year take part in the complete medical examination, twice a year in the technical-tactical, and movement test.

In its two centers, the VFA has playgrounds (sport fields), additional training areas, changing rooms, social room, that have to be rebuilt and modernized. The projects for the rebuilding of both centers have already been worked out.

During this short history, the teams of the VFA have taken part in different international tournaments. The academy keeps written contacts with foreign football academies and tries to keep mutual cooperation.

We do believe, that gradually the Venglos Football Academy will gain its strong position in the Slovak football life and it will educate quality young players – footballers for Slovak football, and other countries
